Founded in the 13th century on the pilgrimage route to Compostella, Ainhoa lies between the Basque provinces of Navarre and Labourd. The village is close to the Atlantic coast, nestled in the hills just 20 km from the ocean, but has succeeded in remaining authentic and peaceful despite the successive events and influences that have marked its history. Belonging successively to Navarre, England and then France, but always remaining very much Basque, the village of Ainhoa is rich in history, heritage and natural charms just waiting to be enjoyed by those who take the time to do so.
